The 2025 World Snooker Championship, officially the 2025 Halo World Snooker Championship, returns to Sheffield’s iconic Crucible Theatre from 19th April to 5th May, marking its 49th consecutive year at the venue. As the season’s final and most prestigious ranking event, the tournament features a £2,395,000 prize fund, with £500,000 awarded to the winner.
Defending champion Kyren Wilson faces the daunting task of breaking the ‘Crucible curse’ in that no first-time champion has ever successfully defended their title. Wilson opens the tournament against rising Chinese star Lei Peifan, who claimed his maiden ranking title at the 2024 Scottish Open and is making his Crucible debut.
The draw is packed with intrigue, as seven-time champion Ronnie O’Sullivan seeks a record eighth crown, starting his campaign against long-time rival Ali Carter. O’Sullivan, who has never missed a World Championship at The Crucible, remains a perennial favourite and crowd-puller.
World number one Judd Trump, the 2019 champion and this season’s standout performer with multiple titles, begins his run against Zhou Yuelong. Other top contenders include Mark Selby, Mark Allen, Neil Robertson, and John Higgins, all former champions or major winners this season, ensuring a fiercely competitive field.
The 2025 World Snooker Championship promises drama, high-quality play, and the possibility of history being made once again at The Crucible.
